I was disappointed to hear you disrespect Olympic Arms and their parts. That is simply not true. I will say that Olympic HAD some 'cast' guns in the past, but all their guns in the last several years are forged. Further they are one of the very few companies that actually makes the parts for the guns, most of the guns are assembled from parts that are simply purchased from other companies. Olympic Arms actually sells their parts to many of these other companies and it is a fact that Colt tried to use the Olympic design for their 9mm carbines.

I have ARs from several different brands, and 2 of them are Olympic Arms. I consider them better than Bushmaster and MUCH better than DPMS. Olympic makes guns that are a real value in the AR market, they also make guns for ALL branches of service.

There is an infamous 'chart' that is posted around the internet and it shows that Olympic Arms M4 is not as good as other brands but that chart is not fully accurate and mistakenly claims that many of the Olympic Arms features are not mil-spec when they, in fact, are mil-spec or BETTER than mil-spec and all are accepted by the military!

Dear Anonymous,

The fact that you stood up for Olympic Arms and stand to set the record straight is cool. I don't mind being corrected, anybody else agree with Anonymous?

I've got whole guns and parts of AR-15s from DPMS(2), Bushmaster(2), Alexander Arms (1), Charles Daly Defense(1), Rock River Arms, Sabre Defense (1), Victory Arms (1), SNS (2) and 2 from Olympic Arms.

My ARs are chambered in 9mm, 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, 458 Socom and a dedicated 22lr plus a 223/22lr conversion.

My Olympic Arms guns are absolute values compared to the others and they are better than most of the others. The absolute worse quality stuff is from DPMS. The Charles Daly Defense and Alexander Arms have the nicest finishes. Bushmaster is sort of like Chevy, its good but not special. My 2 guns from Olympic Arms are my "go to" guns and have more rounds through them than all the others.

I think the folks who 'trash talk' the Olympic Arms brand are simply crazy. These are some of the best, but perhaps not the prettiest, guns on the market! What is not to like about a good value in a reliable gun that is accurate?

Odd too that Olympic makes match barrels and supplies them to custom gun makers for their ARs. Odd too that Olympic makes parts for other AR 'builders' so their parts are obviously good. Fact is Olympic actually forges their own components while others simply buy parts and build guns.

I have to say that I think you should visit with the Olympic Arms people if you ever get to Washington state, or maybe sit with them at the SHOT show and see if you can't get the real scoop on this brand.

I too have a Oly AR-15 and have it to be a flawless performer, I have shot over 1000 rounds with it with no failures. Unlike others who have to add things to thier ARs to make them reliable, all you need to do to a Oly to make it reliable is take it our of the box. Check out the warrenty that comes with it, tat says it all.

Oly, the BEST value in the AR world

Kenn,
Just so you know I am an Olympic Arms fan, about an hour ago I was putting some custom parts on my AR getting it ready for this seasons 3matches. This year I plan to use my Olympic Arms AR. Not to brag but I can afford any AR on the market but I'm loyal to my Olympic because it never once let me down. The gun is accurate and reliable the only down side to it is it's a bit heavy for an AR.

Kenn,
I own two Oly Arms rifles. Have never had a problem with either. One is about 10 years old, the other about 2 months. I recommend Oly to all my friends, and all who have bought have been very pleased.

Never found any ammo that wouldn't cycle, mags ar eno problem, and all accessories I ever bought fit well.

Enjoyed the show, however please for the sake of your listeners do not retract your statement regarding Olympic Arms. Some people simply refuse to admit that they spent $1000 dollars on a piece of garbage when they could have spent $100 more and have a quality gun.

The Oly forum had a thread begging people to come stand up for them here...as they obviously have.

If you want the real scoop, with hard data and not the dreams of a bunch of fanboys, I suggest you look here, http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA&hl=en

Also the idea that some of Olympic's features are better than milspec or accepted by the military is ludicrous. The fact is that the only 5.56 M16 pattern weapons in use by the US military are made by Colt and FN, with a few MK18CQBRs made by LMT.

The ONE thing that could have an argument made for "better" is not chrome lining the bore, and even then it would only be of value on an SPRish gun, not an m4 type.

The TDP is in fact only a base line for what the .mil considers acceptable for a fighting rifle. However, 99% of companies that do not attempt to meet the spec do not do so because they have a better mousetrap, it's because they have a better way to be make money and cheat their customers(who generally do not shoot enough to notice, nor get their guns hot in a training environment.)
